Hey everyone! As I prepare for College Fashion Week coming up at the end of this month, I wanted to share my go-to routine for soft waves with you guys! (You can still snag some tickets for College Fashion Week here!) This is a sponsored post in partnership with Bed Head Styling and Her Campus Media. As always, all words and opinions are my own.
After showering, I go ahead and put on my makeup and get ready to style my hair. I start by towel drying my hair a bit and then rough drying it with a blow dryer. Once it’s about 80% dry, I finish drying it with my hair brush to make sure it’s smooth and ready to be curled!
Before I start curling, I separate my hair into a top section and the bottom section so I don’t miss any hair and I only have to work with a little at a time! Today I’m using the Curlipops Tourmaline Ceramic Styling Iron by Bed Head! You can grab one for yourself here. I love this product because not only is it super inexpensive, it has a ton of features, including Tourmaline Ceramic Technology for reduced frizz and massive shine, a 1 1/4″ barrel for loose, tousled waves, high heat up to 400°F, a bonus heat-protective glove, and a tangle free 6 ft swivel cord! But, what I really love most about it is the large barrel, because loose waves are my jam.
Starting with the bottom section, I point the barrel downwards and wrap about a 1 inch section of hair around the barrel away from my face. A little tip here is to always wrap the front sections of your hair away from your face and it will fall really nicely! I curl all of the bottom sections away from my face because I prefer a more uniform wave, but for a more natural, beachy vibe, you can alternate sections by curling toward and away from your face. Once I finish the bottom section, do pretty much the same thing with the top – curling away from my face in 1 inch sections. Below, you can see that I don’t curl the strands all the way down. I always leave about an inch at the bottom uncurled. This gives it a more natural look!
Once I’ve finished curling, I spray my hair with a tiny bit of hairspray for a light hold. I never use a ton of hairspray because I like my waves soft and touchable! After I spray them, I brush through them so they become very soft, loose waves. For a finishing touch, I like to add a little bit of dry shampoo, even if my hair is clean, because it gives the waves a nice lived-in look. Last, I tousle my hair around a bit, and voila! I have beautiful soft waves perfect for any occasion! I love this look so much because it’s natural enough for every day, but is also a little done-up for a nice occasion. I’ll definitely be rocking this style for College Fashion Week, so make sure to snag some tickets!
So, there you have it! You can follow this tutorial step-by-step, but feel free to mix it up and put your own little spin on it! These waves are a great starting point for so many different styles. You could add braids or twists, do a ponytail or whatever you like! For inspiration, check out Bed Head’s styling page here! This style also holds really well overnight, so you can wear it a few days in a row no problem. Click here for a few different ways you can style your second-day hair.
