As the Fall semester gets closer, it becomes more and more urgent to get shopping for back-to-school essentials. Figuring out what clothes to bring to college can be difficult, but the best way to start building your school wardrobe is to start off with the basics, quite literally. Not only will you have a cohesive and minimal closet, but you’ll look ultra stylish too! This means jeans, leggings, sweaters, t shirts, and jackets are all must-have items for your wardrobe. But where to get them? There’s so many places to buy basics these days, and unfortunately not every white t-shirt is made equal. Luckily, I’ve been slowly building a capsule wardrobe filled with the best basics that will last, and I know just the perfect places to buy them!
If you don’t already love target, the time to start is now. Not only can you get great dorm decor, but you can also find the best essentials. Target has the best selection of affordable and stylish clothes, perfect for your college wardrobe. My favorites are their tees. They come in a variety of styles, washes, colors, and prints, so you’ll find the perfect tee to throw on right before class! Try the women’s vintage tee for a soft basic tee you’ll want to wear every day!
Old Navy has become one of my new favorite stores for essentials. They have a great selection of comfortable office wear, workout clothes, and basic tees and dresses! Old Navy has a great selection of graphic tees, perfect for a lazy day with sweats, or dressed up with this incredibly comfortable blazer!
Gap is a great place to pick up some of your “nicer” essentials, like denim jackets and dresses! Because Gap is a little more on the pricey side, I suggest only picking up these items. Nothing is more college than a good athleisure look paired with a denim jacket! Perfect to spice up your lazy day outfits, this denim jacket will make you feel like a #bossbabe.
I normally don’t shop UNIQLO, but there is something to be said about their ultra light down jacket. Not only is it stylish, warm, and water-resistant, it also rolls up to the size of a water bottle to store in your school bag! This jacket is truly an essential for those of you going to school in colder climates. It’ll warm you up in the chilly fall months over a basic tee, or protect you from the freezing cold layered under another coat.
Another love of mine, Amazon, sells everything. Including great basics for your school wardrobe. My favorite item is the 90 Degrees fleece lined leggings. Not only are they comfortable, but perfect to keep you extra warm in the winter. Pair these with your favorite top, sneakers, and Gap denim jacket mentioned above for an easy and stylish outfit!
There’s no way to be 100% prepared for the upcoming school year in terms of clothes, but I can tell you that it’s definitely a great idea to treat it like a capsule wardrobe. You’ll get a cohesive yet versatile wardrobe that fits perfectly into your tiny dorm room “closet”, without feeling like you’re missing anything too important.
