Hey everyone! I just finished up with my third year of college and I could not be happier! If you read my latest post about what’s been going on in my world lately, you’d know that I had the busiest semester ever. It was definitely challenging, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way! One of the things that made my semester so great was my internship with Dormify!
Let me tell you- Dormify is the most magical place on the internet. If you know me, or even just read my blog, you’d know that I love decorating and putting things together. And Dormify does pretty much just that! Dormify is your online small-space decorator from dorms to apartments and beyond! They carry everything from bedding to wall decor and desk supplies so you can live your best (and prettiest!) life through college and young adulthood. You can check out their website here!
How’d I get my internship?
I won’t lie- internship hunting in NYC is kind of difficult. There’s a lot of awesome options but there’s also a ton of people going for the same one as you too! For me, I’m super affected by my environment and the people around me, so I knew I wanted to work somewhere I knew I’d be a great fit. When I was thinking of places I’d want to intern at, Dormify was at the top of my list. I love the college experience, I love decorating, and Dormify gives off this amazing vibe I just knew I wanted to get in on! So, I emailed them with my resume, cover letter, and a link to my blog and one interview later, I was hired!
What did I do at Dormify?
Once I started my semester, I made trips out to their NoMad office three days a week to work. It was definitely time consuming, considering I stacked all my six classes into two days to make it work. On top of that, the commute was definitely long- it took me an hour and a half subway ride to get to the Dormify HQ and back! But I will tell you, it was all worth it! On my first day, I met everyone and was assigned a project right away! They were preparing for their photoshoot for their new collection (which by the way is out now and absolutely amazing)! My job was to find a whole bunch of photos for their photo displays for their dorm and apartment photoshoots! So if you go on their site and see their lifestyle shots with photo displays, I picked all those photos out! I also did a ton of research- I researched new influencers, researched venture capital firms for potential investors, and researched high schools across the country so we could have a Dormify geotag on snapchat during graduations! But my main job was definitely helping out on their social sites and blog! Daily, I helped run their social media sites including Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Youtube, and you can watch this youtube video I helped create! On the blog, I helped plan their Freshman Planning, Guide, a post partnering with Sugarfina on How to Create a Graduation Candy Cart with Sugarfina, planned out a post on my junior year dorm tour , and even wrote my own blog post which you can read here!
What made the internship so great?
I absolutely loved my internship with Dormify and hope to one day be a permanent part of their team! I loved getting to work alongside the co-founder and work for this amazing company she started at such a young age with her mom- can I say #girlboss? The office was definitely small which I loved because I really felt like I was able to get to know everyone and felt included in everything- I even went on a team outing with them to SoulCycle! Everyone at Dormify is so genuine and kind and made an effort to make me feel like part of the team. The environment was welcoming and super laid back- and being able to wear athleisure to work was pretty awesome too! One of my favorite things I got to do as an intern was be included in their Real Room, Real Girls campaign where they redecorate a real college dorm! It was super fun to be included in that and be one of the first people to outfit there dorm in their new line! My roommate and I were super thrilled to be part of that and get featured in their mailer! Don’t worry, I will definitely be doing a junior year dorm room tour featuring my Dormify makeover, so look out for that coming soon!
All in all, I am so grateful for the opportunity to work alongside some really awesome women for an amazing company that I truly stand behind. I look forward to hopefully returning to Dormify soon!
