Hey everyone! I’m here today to help you with some of your holiday plans! Well… at least packing for them. I know that many of you will be traveling home for the holidays, and sometimes packing heavy isn’t an option. If you’re going away for just a weekend or a month, these tips will save you some SERIOUS space in your suitcase, carry on or not!
I also have an exciting new addition to this post: a video!! This is my first time making a video for a post, and I am still learning about it! I hope that the video will help you visualize these tips a little more so you can really get the most space out of your bag! Let me know if you like the video additions and I’d be happy to make more! Just scroll down to the bottom of this post to watch the video 🙂 Without further ado, let’s get into it!
My first tip is to pack outfits, not options. I know that it is really nice to have options and choose what you want to wear, but that’s how overpacking happens (trust me, I know)! If packing for a week away, I will usually pack around 5 different outfits, because I know I can either wash them or mix and match for the last few days! In addition, if you pack outfits, you won’t have to worry as much as to what to wear each day because each outfit was styled before your trip!
PRO TIP: Packing strictly neutrals like black, white, and gray is a great way to cheat this rule a bit! If you stick to a color palette, it is so much easier to mix and match, allowing you more outfit choices.
Roll it Up
Rolling your clothing is a great way to help save space while also keeping your clothes wrinkle-free! Ever since I started rolling my clothes, I have been able to fit so many more items in my luggage than by just folding. To be honest, I’m not exactly sure how rolling the clothes saves space, but I promise you, it really does! All I do is lay out my clothes, roll them, and place each item into their packing cube!
My favorite and most helpful tip to you is to invest in packing cubes. They can be bought in a pack with multiple sizes, and they are the best way to save space! I have these packing cubes from Amazon, and they are a serious lifesaver! All you need to do is roll your clothes up into the cubes, zip them up, and throw them in your bag. Because tbh, without packing cubes my suitcase would look something more like this:
When using packing cubes, I always compartmentalize my items so I know where to find them. I try to pack like items together in the same cube, so tops in one cube, bottoms in another, and I usually combine PJ’s with socks and underwear. This will help your items fit in the cube nicely, and makes it so easy to find your items in a rush when you need to!
Utilize your Personal Item
I have and alway will suggest having a carry-on bag or purse that has been made specifically for travel. I currently use the Lo & Sons O.G. bag, and it is a traveler’s dream come true. It is one of the best bags for travel because it has so much space to store an extra items that didn’t fit in your suitcase! But whichever bag you have, make sure you use it to the best of its ability- you’d be surprised how much you can fit into a personal item/carry-on purse!
